Pregnancy, Birth and our precious little babies are some of the most treasured and vulnerable times in our life.

I know for me, having my first child was a key point in my life when I started to look at the products that we were using in our home and I turned to some of the well known brands that market themselves as safe to babies and children but what I know now is that many of them aren't as safe as they are marketed to be. If I could go back in time I would only use natural products or products I made myself so I would know exactly what is in them.

So if you are pregnant or a new mum, it is natural to want to reach for supports, which are low toxic and not laden with dangerous chemicals.

With this in mind it is important to remember that Essential Oils are very potent - ONE drop of doTERRA essential oil goes a long way and when we are using them with our little ones in mind dilution is key.

Essential oils offer us a natural way to support our bodies when we need it. So let's dive in to the top oils to use during pregnancy, labour and once your little one is here.

Oils for Babies

Teething – White Fir and Lavender

Add the appropriate dilution to a roller ball of fractionated coconut oil and apply to the jaw line.

Home made baby wipes

Often baby wipes are full of fragrance and are not soothing on a baby’s sensitive tush. Be gentle on baby and the environment and make you own baby wipes in the same amount of time it takes to make a cup of tea.

Put water in your jug and while its boiling take a roll of paper towel and cut the roll in half. Place it in a storage container.

In a bowl or jug put 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (the normal kind) with 3 drops each of Tea Tree and Lavender and add 2 cups of boiling water. Pour half of the liquid over each container with the paper towel and when the liquid is absorbed, remove the cardboard roll and pull wipes from the centre. Cover to maintain moisture.

Constipation / Tummy upsets

In a roller bottle fill with Fractionated coconut oil and add the appropriate dilution of digest Zen (1 drop for babies under 1) roll onto the abdomen and or soles of the feet to help things move along. This is particularly helpful when babies are starting solids.

Sleepy time

Every mum wants their baby to have a restful sleep! Diffuser blends to promote sleep:

  • Lavender + Juniper Berry
  • Lavender Peace + Vetiver

Use 2 drops of each and set the timer for 2 hours. Then turn it back on again when waking for the next feed.

Car Travel

If your bub doesn’t like travelling in the car much help them experience calm and be soothed to sleep by making a spray of lavender and water and simply apply to the car seat before setting of on a journey.

Congestion

Cold and Flu season can be scary with a new baby. Sniffles can be common and we want to be kind to their little airways.

In a diffuser use 1 drop each of Lavender and Easy Air to help them breathe easy at night.
