When the founders created doTERRA and were looking to source essential oils to bring to the market, the first hurdle they had to overcome was establishing a standard of quality in an industry that had never had one. It wasn’t enough to simply provide essential oils to homes around the world; the doTERRA founders were committed to providing only the highest quality and purest essential oils so that families could know with surety that they were using only the best to promote health and wellness for their loved ones. This commitment lead to the creation of a new standard of therapeutic quality: CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®.

To achieve this high quality of oils they needed to bring a group of dedicated people together who had the commitment, passion and strong work ethic to bring this vision to fruition. doTERRA’s vision is an oil in every home but also that be safely used on your loved ones – which is why they are committed to producing such a high quality of essential oil.

The science and the testing (all the layers) is so important to me and is the reason why I chose doTERRA oils for use in my home. However a lot of the technical info goes over my head so this video is a great one to watch to understand what goes into the testing of doTERRA’s essential oils.

What are the types of testing that doTERRA does on their oils?

doTERRA’s CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® quality protocol employs five different analytical methods to ensure doTERRA’s essential oils are both pure (extracts contain only the volatile aromatic compounds of a plant), and potent (extracts have consistent chemical composition from batch to batch). The testing process include gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, FTIR Scan (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), microbial testing, and organoleptic testing. The CPTG quality protocol requires the use of independent laboratories for standardization and testing.

See why this stuff goes over my head??

doTERRA does this testing and I know that they are committed to ensuring that they product the highest quality of essential oils which gives me peace of mind using them in my home. There are so many products out there that are labelled as being good for you and organic but really have ingredients in them that are not so good for us.

If you are into the science and the testing, there are loads of resources and info out there to find out more. This article is a great overview of the testing methods that doTERRA employs.

The testing + co-impact sourcing model creates the best quality oil on the market!
